Living Large in Teeny, Tiny Spaces
As much as I may long after a castle to call my own, I’ve always been fascinated by small space living both from necessity and environmental reasons. I’m a huge fan of Sarah Susanka’s “Not so Big House” books and the idea of designing better not bigger.
I also have a brain that likes puzzles and organization so am impressed by spaces that take on an almost origami approach to storage and function. Plus my brother lives full time on a boat and we’ve spent weekends with him and his girlfriend, so I’ve seen small space living up close (really up close!) and personal. And with various family members living in and around NYC, we’ve seen the best (and the worst…) of small space living.
And I just watched this video and had to share. It’s an apartment of one of the founders of TreeHugger and it packs 8 rooms worth of living in 420 SQUARE FEET…and it’s amazing! Check out the video below for all the neat nooks & crannies & various functions. And an interesting side note, they crowd sourced the design and the winning selection were two architectural students. Gives me hope for the future!
